Point & Click Adventures
A point-and-click adventure is a video game where players control a character using a point and click interface.
Point-and-click adventures were very popular in the 80s and early 90s. Nowadays point and click elements can often be found in combination with other video game genres, e.g., Visual Novels, Puzzle games, etc.
Gameplay
The player usually clicks around in a visual setting to
- move characters
- interact with NPCs and items
- initiate conversations
- examine the (visual) setting and the objects within it
The game mechanics usually involve items for the character's inventory, and figuring when is the right time to use that item using clues from the visual elements of the game, descriptions of the various items, and / or dialogue from other characters.
