1-Sentence Summary
He Yu, the son of a wealthy family suffers from psychological ebola, a rare illness that grants him mysterious powers and that puts him under the supervision of doctor Xie Qingcheng, a rather cold person who only seems to care about his sister Xie Xue - the object of He Yus affection.
Reflections
While I am really intrigued by the overall mystery of He Yu's illness, the plottings in the background and the fact that there is a focus on psychological illnesses, I really do not enjoy the romance aspect of the story. I can't name a single relationship in this story that is not toxic. Considering how prominent and overarching the relationships are, Case File Compendium volume 1 will probably be the only volume of this series that I read.
On a positive note, I'd like to highlight the footnotes, guides and glossary in the book (published by SevenSeas). As the book was originally written in Chinese, there are a lot of references and idioms that western readers are not familar with and instead of changing these passages, the editors decided to explain them in footnotes - something I personally highly appreciate.
